MIAMI -- Three Miami Children’s Hospital (MCH) pediatric specialty services are among the best in the nation, according to U.S.News & World Report’s “America’s Best Children’s Hospitals” issue, which appears online today. MCH has more programs ranked by the magazine than any other Florida hospital.
- MCH’s heart and heart surgery program was listed 15th in the nation.
- MCH’s neonatology program was ranked 15th in the nation.
- MCH’s neurology and neurosurgery program was ranked 19th nationwide.
“All of us at Miami Children’s are exceedingly proud of these fine subspecialty programs,” said M. Narendra Kini, MD, President and CEO of Miami Children’s Hospital. “This much-deserved national recognition is a tribute to the leadership and dedication of the physicians, nurses and staff who have committed their lives to enhancing the health and well being of children.”
The magazine’s specialty rankings were based on a three-part blend of reputation, outcome, and care-related measures such as nursing care, advanced technology, credentialing, and other factors. A detailed description of the methodology can be found online at www.usnews.com/childrenshospitals.
Facilities eligible for the U.S. News ranking were largely drawn from members of the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI) in either of two categories -- a freestanding children’s hospital or a children’s “hospital within a hospital” (a large, multidisciplinary pediatric service within a medical center). In addition, several non-NACHRI members were added because of known expertise or at the recommendation of experts.
Of the 160 children’s hospitals invited to complete the 65-page survey, 98 responded. The survey was created and administered by RTI International.
