Chief, Section of Anesthesiology
Dr. Raul J. Fernandez Torrealba is a pediatric anesthesiologist and currently serves as the Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS) chief for the Section of Anesthesiology. In his role as chief, Dr. Fernandez Torrealba is responsible for setting the strategy for the Department of Anesthesiology, as well as overseeing all clinical care, quality metrics, teaching, research and fiscal planning of the department. Dr. Fernandez Torrealba earned his medical degree from Escuela de Medicina José Maria Vargas in Caracas, Venezuela. He completed a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine/UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock, followed by a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at the same institution. His clinical interests include neuroanesthesia, craniofacial surgery and regional anesthesia.
Dr. Fernandez Torrealba is board certified in anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology. He is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia and the International Anesthesia Research Society. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and he has presented at medical conferences.
Dr. Fernandez Torrealba is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the physician-led multispecialty medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. He is bilingual in English and Spanish.
