MIAMI, FL — The National Hockey League and Florida Panthers, hosts of the 2003 NHL All-Star Weekend presented by Nextel, unveiled a special area and mural at Miami Children’s Hospital Dan Marino Center on Friday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m., ET, with a special dedication by 2003 NHL All-Star Sandis Ozolinsh, Florida Panthers Goaltender and Hockey’s All-Star Kids Captain Roberto Luongo and several NHL Team Mascots, including Florida’s own “Stanley C. Panther.”
The NHL and NHL Foundation, will donate a hockey-inspired mural designed by local artist Janie Casoria, which features NHL and Florida Panthers logos.
In addition, the NHL Foundation made a check presentation during the Dodge/NHL SuperSkills competition on Saturday, Feb. 1, to the American and Canadian Cancer Societies and the Saku Koivu Foundation for $350,000 as part of Hockey Fights Cancer, through which the League and NHL players raise money for cancer research. To date, Hockey Fights Cancer has raised more than $6 million for cancer research in North America since its inception in 1998.
