Clinical Geneticist

Dr. T. Alesandra Sugranes is a clinical geneticist with the Division of Genetics and Metabolism, part of the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital Brain Institute. She earned her medical degree from University of Texas Health Science Center/UTHealth Houston. Dr. Sugranes completed a residency in pediatrics at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City. She then pursued a fellowship in medical genetics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center/New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Her clinical interests include clinical genetics, dysmorphology, childhood cancer predisposition, and advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in medicine and medical education.

Dr. Sugranes is board certified in general pediatrics and clinical genetics and genomics. She is a fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG). Dr. Sugranes is a member of the ACMG's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and serves as a DEI liaison to the ACMG’s Social, Ethical and Legal Issues (SELI) Committee. She also acts as a research mentor to students pursuing a master's degree in human genetics at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and she has presented at medical conferences.

Dr. Sugranes is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists (NCPS), the multispecialty medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. She is bilingual in English and Spanish.
