Sanjiv Gandhi MD
Congenital Heart Surgeon
Dr. Sanjiv K. Gandhi is a congenital heart surgeon with the Heart Institute at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. He earned his medical degree from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Dr. Gandhi completed a residency in general surgery at St. Louis University School of Medicine in Missouri, followed by a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. He then pursued advanced training with an additional fellowship in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and a pediatric cardiovascular surgery fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was on staff at the University of Pittsburgh and Washington University in Saint Louis before becoming the chief of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at British Columbia Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, a position which he held from 2010-2023. His clinical interests include complex congenital heart conditions, pediatric heart transplantation, and the use of ventricular assist devices.
Dr. Gandhi is board certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery, with additional qualifications in congenital heart surgery. He is a member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, Society of Thoracic Surgeons and Congenital Heart Surgeons’ Society. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals, and he has presented at national and international medical conferences.
Dr. Gandhi is employed by Nicklaus Children’s Pediatric Specialists, the multispecialty medical group practice of Nicklaus Children’s Health System. He is fluent in English and French.
