Patients treated by the Sickle Cell Comprehensive Center at Nicklaus Children’s reunited with hospital care team for a day of fun at Action Town Florida, an indoor entertainment facility with many attractions for kids of all ages.
This event is a celebration of life for these families, many of whom have endured extended hospital stays while undergoing treatment, which can include a bone marrow transplant.
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a chronic blood disorder that affects person’s red blood cells, causing them to assume an abnormal or sickle shape. SCD can cause pain, anemia, fatigue and pneumonia as well as many other serious complications.
