Nicklaus Children's Health System's President and Chief Executive Officer, Matthew A. Love, was appointed to the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Committee by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on July 26, 2024. This appointment is comprised of a workgroup of healthcare leaders within the state to work on the production of an annual report on graduate medical education in Florida. The announcement comes a day after Nicklaus Children’s was included in Newsweek's America’s Best Children’s Hospitals for 2024 with the most ranked programs in Florida.

"It is an honor to be appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis for this role and to represent pediatric hospitals for the state of Florida in this process," said Matthew A. Love, president and CEO of Nicklaus Children's Health System. “As the #1 pediatric hospital in South Florida, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital understands the importance of our teaching programs and the impact they have on helping recruit and retain the next generation of leading doctors to Florida. Through this appointment, I look forward to creating goals and standards for all healthcare facilities within Florida to benefit from our findings.”

The GME Committee, along with the Community Hospital Education Council (CHEC) work to develop plans and goals to improve the graduate medical education system in Florida. With the results of their findings and highlighting the benefits and necessity of teaching programs, the outcomes may encourage funding and policy changes that better serve Florida residents.

Matthew A. Love, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), brings more than 24 years of experience in financial and operational oversight in both adult and pediatric healthcare systems. Prior to joining NCHS, he served as senior vice president and chief financial officer of Regions for Mercy Health System in Ohio, where he led a team of seven regional chief financial officers. Love is a graduate of Ohio State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in industrial and systems engineering, and has a master's degree in business administration from Cleveland State University.
